We will find our eternal home in the Lord when we come to terms with: God’s strength and our weakness, God’s justice and our sinfulness, and God’s mercy and our response. Psalm 90:1-17
Windy Work, Windy Wisdom
Do not chase work or wisdom, they are vapor! Ecclesiastes 1:1-18
We are going to receive sound Biblical realism delivered from orthopedic shoes. The writer is like Farmer’s Insurance – he knows a thing or two because he has seen a thing or two. This is not about growing cynical or negative but having a robust biblical realism that keeps us from expecting too much from life under the sun. If we can see it clearly for what it is we will walk the path with greater wisdom and health.
We will see Vapor/Fog is everywhere
Work is like a vapor/fog
Wisdom is like a vapor/fog
Spiritual 20/20
Through Jesus’ encounter with Zacchaeus we learn that we are all subject to Spiritual blindness, and only Jesus can make our sight 20/20. Luke 19:1-10
Taking the Plunge !!
In the Great Commission Jesus invites us into Baptism, and this signifies five crucial things for us.
We have a divine family. We are immersed into the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We get a fresh start. Are lives are made new.
We have a grand power. We get a whole new power behind us.
We have a whole new life. The newness is something better than anything that’s come before.
We have a different identity. We are now identified with King Jesus.
The Extravagant Host
Jesus is the extravagant host.
You’re never a nuisance; simply come to Him.
You’re significant, partner with Him.
He provides extravagantly; receive from Him.
No Strings Attached
A Kingdom Table is a Generous, No-Strings-Attached Table!
Generosity will cause us to cut the strings from your table.
When we cut the strings It exposes and aligns our priorities. Our excuses are flushed out of hiding by generosity and we are forced to deal with our actual motivations. This is true both when receiving the generosity of others and being challenged to step into generosity.
Then as we cut the strings we will find proper urgency.
Meet Needs. Go Low.
If we dine like Jesus our Table will be marked by compassion and humility. Luke 14:1-11
Dismantling Religion
August 25, 2019
As we examine different meals that Jesus had, we find a difficult conversation with the religious leaders and lawyers. From it we learn that we must urgently dismantle Superficial Religion. Superficial Religion is being foolishly focused on the outside. Jeremiah Morris preaches on Luke 11:37-54.
A Magnetic Table
August 18, 2019
Our table is Magnetic for sinners when we dine like Jesus. Luke 7:36-50
When we dine like Jesus our table is magnetic.
Because it is marked by BOTH Honest Assessment AND Generous Covering (AKA GRACE).
And this generates humble devotion and emotional gratitude (AKA LOVE).
Unlikely People, Unlikely Places
August 11, 2019
If we dine like Jesus we will have meals with unlikely people from unlikely places at a table where Jesus is central. Luke 5:27-35
We should pursue people in unlikely places.
We should pursue unlikely people.
We should keep Jesus central.
