Time to Step Up!

Time to Step Up!

Time to Step Up! | 2 Timothy 2:1-26

We are leaving the living room and entering the locker room this week. Last Week dad told us, “you’ve got what it takes”.  This week coach telling us, “Time to step up!”

6 Discipleship Minimums

  1. Disciple-Making must be gospel-centered.

  2. Disciple-Making is ALL about multiplication.

  3. Disciple-Making requires GRIT.

  4. Disciple-Makers rest on his perfect faithfulness, not theirs.

  5. Disciple-Makers focus on his Word, not theirs.

  6. Disciple-Makers are serious about holiness.

You’ve Got What it Takes!

 You’ve Got What it Takes!

The Mindset that Brings Joy  |  Philippians 2:1-11

We will cultivate the mindset that brings joy when we count our blessings, change our thinking, and consider the King!

1. Count your blessings (v. 1-2) Jesus is the most faithful Friend we could ever know! When we take inventory of the encouragement, comfort, participation, affection and sympathy that we have in Jesus, we realize that we have all of the resources we need in order to have this mindset that brings joy.

2. Change your thinking (v. 3-4) This mindset requires a change in your valuation method. When we reckon with how much Jesus has loved us and how much He loves others, we will place a premium on the value of others for Jesus’ sake. We will (ac)count others as more significant than ourselves. This is so unnatural! It requires the Holy Spirit to give us the mindset of Jesus. You can only do this if you are well-resourced (see verses 1-2).

3. Consider the King (v. 5-11) This truth is so beautiful that it requires story telling! It requires singing! The King left His throne to rescue us. No one could ever go lower than Jesus did. And no one could ever be exalted higher than Jesus is.

Conclusion: See how holy and humble our King Jesus really is! The Blessed One endured the cross for the joy of redeeming sinners. He considered us greater than Himself! He lived the life of a servant. He died the death of a servant. He lives and reigns as the Servant King forever. Even now He is preparing a place for us (see John 14). And He will return to bring us back to Him and when He does, the Scripture says…Luke 12:37 – “Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them.”

Behold, the Servant King, Jesus! O come let us adore Him! Allow His love to transform your heart and change your thinking so that you will desire to humbly serve those around you, to the glory of the Father.

Advent Week 4: Jesus is the Bridge Builder

Advent Week 4: Jesus is the Bridge Builder

The Bridge Builder. Isaiah 9:1-7

Big Idea: Our journey from (tumultuous) despair to (bright) wholeness requires trust in the Promised Child.

  • We live in a world filled with tumultuous despair.

  • At the other end of the bridge is glory, light, joy, peace, and justice.

  • God has given us Jesus as the bridge. He promised child brings us peace.

Windy Work, Windy Wisdom

Windy Work, Windy Wisdom

Do not chase work or wisdom, they are vapor! Ecclesiastes 1:1-18

We are going to receive sound Biblical realism delivered from orthopedic shoes.  The writer is like Farmer’s Insurance – he knows a thing or two because he has seen a thing or two.  This is not about growing cynical or negative but having a robust biblical realism that keeps us from expecting too much from life under the sun.  If we can see it clearly for what it is we will walk the path with greater wisdom and health.

  1. We will see Vapor/Fog is everywhere

  2. Work is like a vapor/fog

  3. Wisdom is like a vapor/fog

Taking the Plunge !!

In the Great Commission Jesus invites us into Baptism, and this signifies five crucial things for us.

  1. We have a divine family. We are immersed into the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  2. We get a fresh start. Are lives are made new.

  3. We have a grand power. We get a whole new power behind us.

  4. We have a whole new life. The newness is something better than anything that’s come before.

  5. We have a different identity. We are now identified with King Jesus.

No Strings Attached

A Kingdom Table is a Generous, No-Strings-Attached Table!

  1. Generosity will cause us to cut the strings from your table.

  2. When we cut the strings It exposes and aligns our priorities. Our excuses are flushed out of hiding by generosity and we are forced to deal with our actual motivations. This is true both when receiving the generosity of others and being challenged to step into generosity.

  3. Then as we cut the strings we will find proper urgency.
